When I watch the pros in televised matches, it always amazes me how well most of them keep a poker face even when their putts are not falling. On the putting green, they are like tightrope walkers. To reach the two-putt goal, you, too, have to shut distractions out, even while you are gauging such things as how hard or softly to strike the putt, where the break will be, what your line is, whether there is a slope, what the grain of the grass is, how long or short it has been cut ... and other things, too, like wind, temperature, moisture ... the list can be discouraging even before you realize how important it also is to relax, not think too much, and commit to the shot. The more comfortable and relaxed you can be as you plan your putt, the more your own hard distance will continually shorten. "The Way of the Green" has its own integrity, but recognizing this is secondary to recognizing how important it is for you to find "The Way of Your Self."
