There is a very apt phrase that actor Kevin Costner repeats several times in the 1999 film, For the Love of the Game. Costner plays Billy Chapel, an aging baseball pitcher who is attempting to resurrect his major league career. In order to dismiss or tune out or ignore the distractions that surround a pitcher in a baseball game, he repeats this mantra to himself: "Clear the mechanism."
