Might one then assume that golf is a sport which, even at its best and most relaxing, can be the epitome of misguided pursuit of elusive goals at the expense of responsibility and obligation, a sport that requires a degree of focus and preoccupation that is impossible for most of us humble working stiffs to achieve? If so, then I suppose the question most of us might ask is, "Why should I put myself through this ordeal when I know beforehand that the outcome will at best leave me unsatisfied and at worst drive me crazy?" The question might more simply be, "Why bother?"
